1. Source control and safety
Further water entry must be stopped and immediate electrical, structural or contamination hazards considered.
2. Determine the affected area
The visible loss is evaluated along with likely hidden moisture paths into adjacent materials and cavities.
3. Remove standing water
Bulk water is extracted where appropriate to reduce the moisture load.
4. Remove or clean materials as needed
Materials that cannot be safely or practically retained are addressed before or during drying.
5. Dry and dehumidify
Remaining structural materials are dried under controlled conditions.
6. Repair and restore
Damaged finishes and components are repaired or replaced after the moisture problem is resolved.
