What extraction accomplishes
Removing bulk water lowers the moisture load inside the structure and can make the drying phase more efficient. Extraction may be needed on hard surfaces, carpeted areas and other accessible spaces where water has collected.
What extraction does not accomplish
Extraction cannot remove every bit of moisture held inside drywall, wood, subflooring or other porous materials. Those areas typically require drying and dehumidification after liquid water is removed.
Hidden water paths matter
Water can travel under walls, behind baseboards, under floating floors and into adjoining rooms. The area that looks wet may be smaller than the area that actually needs evaluation.
Next step: dry the affected materials
After extraction, the focus shifts to airflow, dehumidification and monitoring. Materials that cannot be safely or effectively dried may need to be removed.
